We’re heading to Edinburgh Fringe 2024!
Since we launched Show Choir back in 2017, we’ve been dreaming of making an August trip to Edinburgh - home to the world’s biggest creative arts festival, Edinburgh Fringe.
Now, with nearly 500 members across the South West, we feel like the time is finally right. And so it’s with great excitment that we can announce that we’re joining the exhaustive and prestigious Edinburgh Fringe 2024 line-up! In this blog, we’ll reveal all the show details, where and when you’ll find us performing, and detail how you can come and join us for yourself - in more ways than one! Let’s get started.
100 Years of Musicals - our brand new show
It’s an incredible thrill for us to finally take Show Choir to the Edinburgh - and so we decided to mark the occasion with a brand new, purpose written show. The result is 100 Years Of Musical, our 60 minute Fringe special performance.
In 100 Years of Musicals, we invite you to join us on a joyous journey through the rich history of musical theatre, in a fun packed a cappella show for all the family.
Starting back in the raucous days of the music hall, this high energy show features much loved and well known songs from genre defining composers like Gershwin and Lloyd Webber - all the way through to modern day musical titans like Lin-Manuel Miranda. Starting in the 1920’s, each number in the show represents a standalone decade of musical theatre, giving audiences a glimpse at the evolving sound and style of West End shows. It’s a fascinating, gloriously arranged celebration of musical theatre.
We’ll be presenting 100 Years of Musicals from theSpace Triplex Big (Fringe Venue 38) from 12th - 17th August 2024 at 12:35pm every day. We’ll actually have two choirs joining us in Edinburgh - the first choir performing for the front half of our six day run, then replaced by our second choir who’ll join us for the latter trio of shows.
But that’s not all we have for you at Edinburgh Fringe 2024!
West End Workshop
Not ones to rest on our laurels, we wanted to give the fabulous festival-goers of Edinburgh the chance to join in the musical theatre fun. And so we’ve created a special West End Workshop that gives you the chance to do exactly that!
Our wonderful West End choir workshop is designed to be fun and interactive activity for all the family. Together, we'll learn much-loved musical hits in glorious, four-part a cappella. There's no experience required – just bring a smile, some good vibes, and your best jazz hands, and we'll take care of the rest! Each part is taught at a relaxed and easy-to-follow pace, and by the end of the session you'll be performing beautiful acapella music with confidence. It's the perfect addition to your day at the festival!
West End Workshop will also be held in theSpace Triplex Big from 12th - 17th August, at the slightly later time of 3:45pm. Tickets are available now!
Show Choir co-founder, Jessica Broderick, expressed her excitement at taking the UK’s no.1 musical community choir to Edinburgh for the first time. She said, “Since Show Choir opened its doors in 2017, it’s been a dream of ours to perform at Edinburgh Fringe. Now, with over 500 members across South West England, the timing feels perfect. We’re so excited to debut a brand new show that has material for every generation of festival-goer. Along with our West End singing workshop, we’re offering audiences a fun, family friendly and inclusive schedule that celebrates everything that’s brilliant about community singing and musical theatre.”
