Show Choir is coming to Keynsham & Portishead!
The Show Choir family is growing! In this blog, we take a look at our two newest Show Choir locations - Portishead Show Choir and Keynsham Show Choir - and talk a little bit about our philosophy and ideas around growing Show Choir - now and into the future.
Since Bristol Show Choir first opened it’s doors in 2017, we’ve been utterly blown away by the passion and dedication of our members. From our very first term in Bristol, our singers’ energy and enthusiasm for Show Choir has been infectious - it’s important to point out that we, as choir leaders and founders, are not solely responsible for this inclusive community of creativity and friendship. Our members have made that happen, by bringing such incredible levels of devotion to every rehearsal, performance, social event, show choir trip, and pint at the pub. It’s been an honour and a privilege to watch this grow - one that we don’t for one moment take it for granted.
This passion, this fervour from our members, has been the single driving force behind our expansion of the Show Choir family over the past seven years. Our inaugural Southville group was oversubscribed within the first two terms, meaning we were compelled to open a second group in Clifton. This group was soon similarly packed with members, and so we looked further afield. We quickly found ourselves with multiple groups across Bristol, all brimming with passionate musical theatre lovers fostering incredible friendships and making stunning sounds on a weekly basis. It made us think, maybe there’s some similarly West End obsessed folks to be found down the road in Bath? And so it proved.
Now, we find ourselves with nine groups in five locations across South West England - with two new locations opening in September, and another two joining us in January 2025. Yet even as the Show Choir family grows wider and reaches further into the country, we’re steadfast in our commitment to preserving what has made Show Choir the powerful, positive, people-driven collective that it has become.
You’ll never find us pursuing rapid expansion for rapid expansion’s sake. Each new group we introduce has to be built on the same principles as our very first group in Southville, Bristol.
First, a welcoming environment for all who wish to step through our rehearsal room door - if you love musical theatre and you’re ready to sing your heart out, then we’re here for you.
Second, a brilliant but challenging repertoire that pushes our singers in all the right ways, and elicits incredible results in live performances.
Third, professional choir leaders of the highest quality, there to encourage every singer to perform to their absolute best.
And finally, a culture that invites each group’s members to truly cultivate their own community, and build bonds of friendship that last a lifetime.
Wherever Show Choir goes next, we promise all current and future members that we’ll stand steadfast to these principles. Ultimately, Show Choir is built for all of you, and we’ll work hard to ensure that remains the case, now and always.
So without further ado, let’s introduce our newest groups!
When it comes to expanding the Show Choir family, Kenysham feels like a bit of a no-brainer! A brilliant and vibrant town located between Bristol and Bath, Kenysham Show Choir feels like a natural fit to our burgeoning Show Choir community.
Kenysham Show Choir will meet each Wednesday evening at The Keynsham Community Space, starting from Wednesday 2nd October. Rehearsals will be lead by Fran, a seasoned Show Choir leader currently running Frome Show Choir and our Bath Show Choir Southdown group - so singers will find themselves in excellent hands!

Speaking of no-brainers, we’re delighted that Portishead Show Choir is joining our growing group of choir locations down the South West coast! Portishead Show Choir will be led by Show Choir co-founder and Portishead resident, Doug Watts, and will meet every Thursday evening at Avon Way Hall from 26th September.
Portishead enjoys an already wonderful choir community - and we’re so excited to introduce a bit of musical theatre magic to the mix! New members can sign up for their free taster session now, by heading to our dedicated Portishead Show Choir web page.
So there you have it! And don’t forget - if you’re new to Show Choir, there’s a whole host of groups in locations right across the South West.
